DATUM EXPERIMENT SUBMISSION

THE STAIR

IN CLASS TASK:

1. Using the scheme you developed in SketchUp, design two sets of stairs; one that goes from the above ground studio down to the showroom space and a second that comes from the below ground studio up to the showroom space.

2. Represent each stair with at least 2 sections. Keep all the notes, details and sections relating to each stair on one pair of facing pages.

Section of the steps. Looking at the word pleat for inspiration, I used intercepting slabs of wood to capture the repeated folds in the pleats.

Person's perspective when going down the stairs.

3. In consultation with your tutor take another one of the sections created in the first studio session and design two sets of stairs for that scheme. Represent each of these new stairs with at least 2 sections.

Where the step will be placed in relation to the buildings

Section of the steps. The shapes are meant to be organically shaped, almost as if they have been carved from a stone. The rawness is in tune with Magnus Walker's rough and rustic aesthetic.

Experience of the stairs from a birds eye perspective. The adjective intrepid suggests a sense of thrill, therefore I have tried to embody this feeling by making the stairs uneven. The 'thrill' sensation is also created by having the stairs mirror mountain climbing-which itself is an adventure.

A NORTH SECTION CAN NOT SHOW THE STAIRS SPIRAL SHAPE, THEREFORE A BIRD'S EYE SECTION WAS SHOWN.
