CLASS TASK:
1. In groups of 5 come up with 36 words to describe the features/qualities/properties of materials
2. Place them into 3 categories (above, below and in between)
3. Carefully draw a material section that represents each of the words
ABOVE
I noticed that majority of the textures/patterns I chose for the above space were gentle, fluid or 'light'. My thought process was that the materials in the upper ground should take advantage of environment (air, sun and wind). Therefore, the words I chose to describe the materials followed a 'less-is-more' concept -- The material should be light or thin to create a more open and spacious building which can appreciate the environment.

MIDDLE
The common theme with the middle ground textures is the idea of blending. Many of the patterns drawn show a sense of adaptability, which makes sense as the middle ground is the transition space between the two clients studio spaces. For instance, the HAZY and OMBRE pattern has used hatching techniques to create a gradient--which is the blending of colours. The middle ground textures are neither 'light' or 'heavy'.

BELOW
The notion of underground connotes a sense of secrecy or mystery. Therefore, the materials I have chosen for the underground space either express rawness (eg. rough) or harshness (eg. fractured).

INDEPENDENT STUDY:
1. Include two simple shapes in your developed Sketchup model and apply an image of your clients work to them. They should be to scale and represent an approximate form and volume.
2. Choose 3 of the textures you've developed and apply them to the most appropriate parts of the SketchUp model.
3. Following these discussions you will chose one of the two draft schemes to develop into your final submission.

THE BUILDING WILL NOT BE TRANSPARENT IN THE FINAL VIDEO. THIS IS ONLY SO WE CAN SEE THE OBJECTS INSIDE.4. Find a short movie (from your own collection or download from YouTube ... www.keepvid.com works quite well) that has something to do with the section, stair, texture or materiality and your scheme. Embed the video in your blog.
